Here’s a story of two young men in high school. They were best friends all though high school. One night the boy’s parents ask his best friend to have dinner with them. The four were eating and enjoying the time together.
The conversation turned to finance. The Mom, who was an accountant said, “Remember this, always save 10% or more of everything you earn. You’ll always have the money you need, at the time you need it most.”
Her son’s friend took that message to heart.
Thirty years later at a high school reunion the friend was recalling the Mom’s prophetic statement at dinner long ago. He said, “Man, your Mom was smart. Her advice allowed me to buy a business when I was just in my early 20’s. By the end of the 60’s I was making a six figure income from my own business. I bought it with the money your Mom told me to save.
The friend whose Mom offered the advice said, “She said what? When? I never heard that.”
Their are many morals to this story. What are your thoughts? Does this still apply today? Was it helpful?
