What an historic day! An American of color, an African American is now our leader. President Obama has brought us together. We ARE one nation. We can put our past behind us and we’re giving ourselves permission to move forward. He has the hopes and dreams of millions of Americans and millions of others in countries like Iraq, Afghanistan, China, India, Israel, the UK and Europe to mention a few of the places where his influence, his passions, his approach to peace are needed.
I know what it’s like to be in the military at the time when the country is divided on the issue of our very presence in that war. Vietnam was from my generation. Iraq is my son’s war for the cause of liberty. Not just ours but others.
Today is symbolic because it signals hope, opportunity and the firm belief that in America, anything is possible. As Americans, we now need to lead the effort for change, peaceful change in the world. Peace begins with each of us. As Gandhi said, “Be the change you want to see . . . ” Yes, Mr. President, we can be the change we want in the world.
I’m just one person but you can count on me. I’m at your disposal. If I can be helpful, in anyway, please don’t hesitate to ask. Until that time comes, I’ll do my part as we turn this nation around. As we employ more people, solve our economic crises and more our country forward here at home and around the world.
As a nation, we can. As an individual I can. We ARE one!
God bless President Obama with the courage to do what is right.
