My number is 65, no wait, 55, stop, it’s 35

WARNING! This is a blatant ad because I think everyone should know.
Our new select comfort bed is amazing. We bought the model 4000 but there are more expensive beds. By the way, expense is a relative term. How much is a good night’s sleep worth to you?

We’ve been married for 13 years and have purchased and then sold or gave away 8 beds. Our new select comfort bed is number 9. We’ve had it two weeks.

Originally we were “fitted” and my wife was a 35 and I was a 65. At these respective settings there is the least amount of bad pressure on our bags and legs. Seems reasonable. So we tried out a couple of beds and then we laid down on the model 4000. We were sold. Then we were told that the bed head and foot areas would move up and down. In fact, we could pretty much make ourselves into taco food if we wanted to. But, I digress.

Lest we forget

I was speaking with a mentor of mine from thirty years ago. This is a man who contributed many firsts in business. His skill and knowledge enabled men like me to leap frog others in sales and leadership. Many of us who’ve known him over the years owe our careers to this man. Many of us have money because this man showed us how to make it.

At dinner we all patiently listened to and accommodated him. It is an honor to do so. His wife, his children and we who are privileged enough to call him a friend, still honor him and the memories of what he’s accomplished in his life and in our respective lives. You see today, my friend has Alzheimer’s disease.

His wife is his primary care giver. They have been married for more than 60 years. The lessons in life and love are ever present. If you don’t know much about Alzheimer’s disease, may I humbly suggest that you go to www.alzfdn.org. There are more facts here that you can imagine. Unfortunately, most of us can’t except for the fleeting moments when we quip, “I’m having a senior moment.” Sometimes we say, “I’m blocking on this.” Really, we’re covering up the fact that we simply “can’t remember.”

The struggle to remember is only have the problem. The race for a cure rushes on as more than 7,000 of us per day turn 60 and our own risk of getting Alzheimer’s disease increases. Everyone with this disease deserves quality care.

They’ve started an estore with a rather unique gift for the care giver in every Alzheimer’s patient’s life. You’ll have to go to http://www.alzfdn.org/estore.shtml and see it for yourself. If you’re thinking that this holiday is about giving, about humanity and what we do for each other, then stop by. If you know someone who’s literally giving their life to aid another, then you’ll want to see what’s available. You’ll get a great gift; all proceeds benefit the Alzheimer’s Foundation. Everyone wins.

Give a holiday gift to someone you know that spends their time providing care for others. Help the Alzheimer’s Foundation find a cure. Help others.

Just a thought, what’s yours?

Why I Blog

Some days I ask my self this question, “Why do you take the time to Blog?” Every time I answer with the same resolve.

Have you ever felt as though you were meant to do something? Have you ever felt that this is what life is all about? Perhaps you’ve had the feeling that what you’re doing will benefit all mankind? Well frankly, my reason doesn’t answer any of those questions. My reason is simple, “I have a need to share what I know.” (more…)
